What if a service provider gives poor service?
Short answer
You can file a complaint in the consumer forum for deficiency of service. You can claim compensation for loss, mental agony, and legal expenses.
Understanding the issue
Under the Consumer Protection Act, deficiency of service means any fault, imperfection, shortcoming, or inadequacy in the quality, nature, and manner of performance of a service. This covers all paid services — hospitals, telecom, banking, insurance, education, travel, e-commerce, home services, etc. If you receive poor service, you can: first complain to the service provider's grievance cell in writing, then file a consumer complaint if not resolved within 30 days. In your complaint, you can claim: refund of service charges, compensation for any loss suffered, compensation for mental agony and harassment, and cost of litigation. File complaints at edaakhil.nic.in with supporting evidence like bills, contracts, photos, and correspondence.
