How to report cybercrime in India?

Short answer

Call 1930 (Cyber Crime Helpline), file online at cybercrime.gov.in, and file FIR at the nearest police station. Report within the golden hour for best chances of recovery.

Understanding the issue

India has multiple channels to report cybercrime. The fastest is calling 1930 — the National Cyber Crime Helpline — especially for financial fraud where quick action can freeze the transaction. Next, file a detailed complaint at cybercrime.gov.in — this is the official National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal where you can report fraud, cyberbullying, child exploitation, and other cybercrimes. You can track your complaint status online. Additionally, file an FIR at your nearest police station — any station must accept your Zero FIR. For workplace sexual harassment online, use shebox.nic.in. For social media complaints, also report directly on the platform (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter all have reporting mechanisms). For RBI-related banking fraud, additionally complain at cms.rbi.org.in. Always preserve evidence before reporting: take screenshots of messages, save URLs, note timestamps, and keep bank transaction records. Do NOT delete any communication with the fraudster.
