Your rights

Can I practice any religion freely?

Short answer

Yes. Article 25 guarantees freedom of conscience and right to profess, practice, and propagate religion.

Understanding the issue

Article 25 of the Constitution guarantees to every person the freedom of conscience and the right to freely profess, practice, and propagate religion. This includes the right to follow any religion of your choice, perform religious rituals, and share your religious beliefs with others. Article 26 gives religious denominations the right to manage their own religious affairs, own property, and administer it. Article 28 restricts religious instruction in educational institutions fully funded by the State. However, these rights are subject to public order, morality, and health. The State can regulate economic, financial, or political activities associated with religious practice and can make laws for social welfare and reform.
