How to withdraw PF (Provident Fund)?

Short answer

Apply online through UMANG app or EPFO member portal (member.epfoservices.in). You can withdraw full PF after 2 months of unemployment or partial PF for specific purposes.

Understanding the issue

Your Provident Fund (PF) can be withdrawn online through the EPFO portal. Full withdrawal: You can withdraw 100% of your PF balance after being unemployed for 2 continuous months. The process is online: log in to member.epfoservices.in or use the UMANG app, submit Form 19 (PF withdrawal) and Form 10C (pension withdrawal). Your Aadhaar must be linked to your UAN and bank account for online withdrawal. Partial withdrawal: You can withdraw partial PF (without leaving your job) for specific purposes — medical emergency (self/family), marriage (self/children/siblings), home loan repayment, house construction, education, and 1 year before retirement. Each has different limits and eligibility criteria. For partial withdrawal, submit Form 31 online. Processing time: Online claims are typically processed within 10-20 days if KYC is complete. If your employer does not approve your claim within the stipulated time, you can file a complaint on the EPF Grievance portal or call 14470. Tax implications: PF withdrawal is tax-free if you have completed 5 years of continuous service. If less than 5 years, TDS is deducted.
