What is a One Stop Centre (Sakhi Centre)?

Short answer

Government centres providing 24/7 support to women facing violence — medical aid, police help, legal advice, counselling, and shelter.

Understanding the issue

One Stop Centres (also called Sakhi Centres) are established under the Ministry of Women and Child Development to provide integrated support to women affected by violence. These centres operate 24/7 and provide: emergency response and rescue, medical assistance, assistance in filing FIR and police cases, legal aid and counselling, psycho-social counselling, and temporary shelter up to 5 days. They are available in every district across India. Services are free and available to all women regardless of caste, religion, or social background. You can reach them by calling 181 (Women Helpline) or visiting the nearest centre. They also help with video-conferencing for court proceedings.
