Understanding the issue
Sharing obscene or sexually explicit content online without consent is a criminal offence. This includes sharing intimate images of someone without their permission (revenge porn).
Punishment
First offence: Imprisonment up to 3 years and Rs. 5 lakh fine. Subsequent: Up to 5 years and Rs. 10 lakh
Examples
- A shares private intimate photos of ex-partner B on social media without consent. A commits offence under Section 67.
