You or someone near you is facing domestic violence right now

1091Women Police Helpline
Do this now
  1. 01If in immediate physical danger — call 112 (Police Emergency) or 1091 (Women Helpline) RIGHT NOW
  2. 02Move to a safe location — a neighbor's house, relative's place, or any safe space
  3. 03If injured, go to the nearest hospital — they MUST treat you and your medical report becomes evidence
  4. 04Call 181 (Women Helpline) for support and guidance
  5. 05File an FIR at the nearest police station — domestic violence is a criminal offence
  6. 06You can apply for a Protection Order under the DV Act — this can be done through a Protection Officer or directly in court
  7. 07You have the RIGHT to stay in the shared household — no one can throw you out
Do NOT do this
  • Do NOT go back to the abuser until you have legal protection in place
  • Do NOT delete evidence — save photos of injuries, threatening messages, and broken items
  • Do NOT sign any papers your spouse or in-laws pressure you to sign
  • Do NOT feel ashamed to seek help — domestic violence is a crime, not a family matter
